| By far the UK’s largest association is ABTA, the Association of British Travel Agents. ABTA’s membership covers Agents and Operators and members have to adhere to an extensive set of rules and regulations within its Code of Conduct. This covers amongst many things, how quickly complaints have to be responded to and the consequences for the Company in not complying. | |

| The largest independent Association is AITO, the Association of Independent Tour Operators. Members tend to be smaller specialist tour operators and members have to subscribe to a quality charter. There is also, like ABTA, an independent mediation/arbitration service offered for complaints. | |

| Check out also FTO, the Federation of Tour Operators site. The FTO is an invitation only membership for the larger tour operator groups. It has no Code of Conduct but tour operator members support an extensive range of best practices in the area of Health & Safety. The FTO members also meet regularly, as do ABTA members, to discuss the latest trends and issues in customer service and complaint handling. | |
